New Sligo Walking Guide Launched

The new Sligo Walks publication was launched by Michael Ring T.D. Minister for State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport in Union Wood last week. The guide contains a range of walks from across County Sligo from way marked ways and loop walks to coastal walks; there is something to suit all fitness levels.

Speaking at the launch Minister Ring said that the new guide was a great example of how local agencies and partners could work together to take full advantage of the natural assets in an area and use them to develop the appeal and tourism potential.

Failte Ireland have invested in the region of 500,000 in the walking product in Sligo over the last five years and plans are afoot for further walks developments in the County. Paul McLoone, Failte Ireland’s Head of Operations in the North West explained that the launch of the guide was a significant milestone in the designation of the County as a top class tourism walking destination.

With the continued growth of adventure and walking tourism in Ireland, the new publication will serve as a great asset in promoting the walking product on offer in Sligo. Considerable labour and expenditure has been invested in the development of new and existing walking trails in Sligo in recent years and this publication will promote the best that Sligo has to offer in terms of walking.

The guide was published by Failte Ireland in collaboration with a number of partners including Sligo LEADER Partnership, Sligo County Council, Coillte, Marketing Sligo Forum and Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership.
