RTÉ John Murray Show Walk in Strandhill – Sat 26th Nov @ 12.30pm

Join us in Strandhill on Saturday 26th November for a walk along our stunning coastline with beautiful Benbulben and Knocknarea as a backdrop….

The walk will start at 12.30 pm sharp from the main car park and will take about 1½ hrs. There will be a festival atmosphere with live music before the start to entertain the walkers and get the energy flowing. The man himself John Murray will be there walking, chatting and interviewing. There will be live music afterwards and refreshments will be available.

The route will be almost entirely on sandy beaches and will have beautiful Benbulben and Knocknarea as a backdrop. We will have some locals who will share their knowledge and love of the rich archaeological and mythological heritage with us. It promises to be great fun, be good for body and soul and be very informative.

Sligo is one of the best kept secrets of Irish walking, despite Yeats’ best efforts to promote it! We believe that we have here on our doorstep one of the most beautiful areas imaginable for walking: woodlands, rivers, streams, large and small lakes, sandy beaches, rocky forelands and of course hills and mountains with commanding views over the varied landscapes and the ocean. We’ll be thrilled to share this with the listeners to the show. In these challenging times, we hope this will help put Sligo on the map as a tourist destination, particularly for walkers.

So why not come along and have some fun? It won’t do any of us any harm to burn off a few calories before the festive season gets into full swing!

No special gear is required, but good walking shoes such as trainers or trail shoes would be advisable, as well as some warm, rainproof clothing. The walk is suitable for normally healthy people of all ages: no need to be a champion athlete!
