Sligo Jobs Fair supports 110 Job Seekers

110 Job Seekers attended a very successful Jobs Fair at the Glasshouse Hotel on the 6th November. This event was organised by the Co.  Sligo LEADER Partnership Co.

The Jobs Fair provided a great opportunity for job seekers to interact and network with potential employers and assisted Sligo job seekers to maximise their employment potential, through insightful discussion and various employment preparation avenues.

The Jobs fair was open to all local employers who have upcoming job vacancies from full time to seasonal work across a variety of sectors, including retail, hospitality, business, pharmaceutical, graduate, and education, among others.

The Sligo Job Club provided support throughout the evening.  The Sligo Job Club is delivered by Sligo Leader Partnership and provides a range of support and facilities to help participants return to employment.  The Job Club is FREE for all unemployed persons and offers expert guidance from the Job Club Leader Michael Downey.  The Job Club offers support in developing CV’S, letter of application, on-line job search, completing application forms, interview preparation and techniques, career and job planning, while building participants confidence sourcing and attending job interviews.

Self employment services were at hand for any individuals interested or considering starting their own business.  The coordinator, Michael Glennon reported a sizable interest in this employment option.   The Back to Work Enterprise Allowance which supports self-employment, offers financial mentoring and business set-up support which allows people to move from unemployment to self-employment by providing financial assistance for a specific period of time.

Social Welfare hosted a stand offering support to help the unemployed with any queries they may have had in relation to returning to work and pursuing further employment opportunities.

The Jobs Fair was funded by Sligo LEADER Partnership Co. Ltd through the Local Community Development Programme.  Supporting long term unemployed and under employed in the Sligo area is a key focus of the programme.  Sligo LEADER Partnership would like to thank all participants and employers who took part in this event.
