Conservation and up-grading of the Rural Heritage

Eligible Activities:

  • Actions to preserve and develop vernacular architecture, crafts, archaeology, cultural traditions etc
  • Integrated plans for the restoration and development of locally significant natural areas, features and areas of environmental significance
  • Community environmental actions to protect and restore the amenity value of local water resources and high value nature areas
  • Other environmental initiatives aimed at waste reduction
  • Alternative or renewable energy actions addressing suitability of new technologies to meet community energy needs, awareness actions for community groups and under certain conditions capital assistance to community groups adopting such technology

Ineligible Activities:

  • Conservation and Protection of National Monuments; so defined under the National Monuments Acts 1930 – 2004

  • In general an overall ceiling of €150,000 per project will apply but project caps will be strictly limited by available budget.
  • All projects are evaluated on a case by case basis
  • A project is only deemed fundable when it has gone through the application and evaluation procedure and has been issued with an official letter of offer
  • Projects are never funded retrospectively.
  • Other sources of public funding cannot be reckoned as matching funding. Any project which has already been in receipt of such funding is automatically ineligible for RDP support.
  • Formalised Community Groups can apply for a maximum of 75% grant aid
  • Private Promoters can apply for a maximum of 50% grant aid
  • Applications cannot be accepted from projects inside the Borough of Sligo town.
* In exceptional circumstances, and subject to prior written approval by the Department, grant aid up to €200,000 may be awarded.
**  In exceptional circumstances, and subject to prior written approval by the Department, grant aid up to  €500,000 may be awarded to private and non-commercial community projects respectively.
