The West Men’s Group was formed in 2005 to respond to the identified needs of this group in the West Sligo Area. The support programme to this group was further developed in collaboration with Easkey Family Resource Centre and with continued support from SLPC.

The Men’s Group have been involved in variety of activities that include village enhancement; Tidy Town preparations; Family Fun Day; intercultural events; organic gardening; cookery and sporting activities.

The West Sligo Rural Men’s project achieved recognition having being awarded an Aontas Star for their attainment in educational pursuits. The men have recently completed a joint biopic which sets their life experiences in the context of their environment. This project was supported by SLPC and the County Council Arts office. This book will form an important archive to the history of West Sligo in time to come.

SLPC are currently addressing and responding to the needs of this priority group in the CLASP and Gurteen areas of County Sligo.
