Special Initiative for Travellers

Sligo Leader Partnership Working with the Travelling Community on Enterprise Initiative

For Travellers living in Sligo County interested in starting up their own business or in training towards work

The Sligo Special Initiative for Travellers, funded by FÁS through the Inter Agency Traveller Strategy Group (IATSG), provides a number of supports to Travellers living in Sligo towards employment.

For Travellers interested in setting up their own businesses, Michael Glennon, Enterprise Co-ordinator, said

“we can support them to take up the Back to Work Enterprise Allowance (BTWEA) where they retain their full Social Welfare benefits for the first year and 75% for the second year. We can also provide them with other supports that they may need”.

As well as business set-up support, Michael also said

“we provide support through arranging training opportunities for skill development and improvement towards work possibilities and we can arrange for tailor-made training depending on what is needed.”

Marie Corcoran Tindill is the Enterprise Worker employed by the Sligo Leader Partnership Company to work with Travellers on this initiative. She is available to go out and meet with people at a time and place that suits them or they can call in to meet her in the Sligo Leader Partnership Company (SLPC) Offices in the Sligo Development Centre, Cleveragh Road.
