Applications welcomed for the Walking Guide Leader with Tourism & Heritage Training Course

Sligo LEADER Partnership Company invites applications from interested parties to participate in a Walking Guide Leader with Tourism and Heritage Training Course. The course will be run in evenings over March and April with two weekend sessions. The course will provide potential leaders with the necessary skills and knowledge to undertake guiding work.

Criteria for acceptance on the training course:

Successful applicants will:
• Be over 18 years of age
• Meet the requirements for Walking Group Leader training (as per Bórd Oiliúint Sléibhe)
• Preferably have completed the BOS Mountain Skills syllabus course and assessment
• Have a good knowledge of the hills in Sligo
• Have a good knowledge of the Walking Group Leader syllabus
• Have own suitable equipment to meet the needs of the course and the qualification
• Be able to commit to providing leadership to interested parties/hill walkers in Sligo.
• Undertake organisation and leadership of a walk during National Trails Day
• Commit to leading one walk on behalf of Sligo LEADER Partnership or Failte Ireland.
(Date and walk to be agreed within one year of WGL assessment date).
• Be resident in the Sligo LEADER Partnership catchment area and living outside of the Sligo borough.
• Be in attendance for ALL of the course
• Be a full individual member of Mountaineering Ireland or an MI Club

In additional successful applicants will be required to:
Submit a project, to be worked on and completed over the duration of the course on environmental/heritage/history and other points of interest reference a chosen walk in Co. Sligo. Further information will be supplied on Induction Day and throughout the course.
