Smarter Travel Project Fund

The Sligo LEADER Partnership Company has recently secured funding of €228, 528.00 from the Department of Transport under the Smarter Travel Project Fund – “Smarter Travel Sligo Leitrim”.

The purpose of the funding is to develop a demonstration project which supports:

  1. The development of synergies in Transport Planning and Co-ordination between the Sligo and Leitrim RTP(s), Bus Eireann, the H.S.E. and the I.W.A. in the co-ordination and delivery of transport services which maximise the efficiency of the network while providing accessible viable alternatives to the car and reducing transport emissions.
  2. The development of efficient and effective transport information and co-ordination centre’s for Sligo, Leitrim.
  3. The development of IT systems to support the co-ordination and transport planning needs of all users, a web based and GIS enabled data management and integrated booking system which is accessible to all users.

An invitation to Tender for the ICT elements of the project have been placed in EUJ on etenders –

The Tender is for the development of an enhanced integrated data management and booking system which is Web Based and GIS Enabled with public facing and use of Mobile Communications for the Transport Planning and Co-ordination needs of the RTP in Sligo and Leitrim with the other NWLITS Partners in the North West Region.

The funding has been secured on behalf of the NWLITS – North West Local Integrated Transport Services. This group is convened by POBAL. Pobal is responsible for managing the Rural Transport Programme on behalf of the Department of Transport. Pobal is responsible for convening the NWLITS.

Pobal is a not-for-profit company with charitable status that manages programmes on behalf of the Irish Government and the EU.
